What does Al Ambra Ambra Oud smell like?
Ambra Oud has an opening that few oud scents share: blood orange, cinnamon and mint. Blood orange is a sweet orange with a berry-like edge, cinnamon is warm, and mint is cool and green, so the first layer runs hot and cold together.
The heart is amber, soft florals and resinous accords, all warm and rounded. The base carries the name: agarwood, the wood that gives oud, with a leather note the brand calls light, earthy patchouli and woods. The two words of the name map onto the pyramid, amber in the middle and oud at the bottom.
What Al Ambra says about Ambra Oud
Woody, spicy and balsamic, lightly leathery: that is the brand's direction, and modern Arabic its label for the style. Al Ambra suggests Ambra Oud for autumn and winter, for formal events, evenings and business dinners, and gives the projection as moderate.
Who is Al Ambra Ambra Oud for?
Unisex, says the product title. Men, says the details block on the same page of the brand's website. Ambra Oud is one of the scents for which Al Ambra gives two answers, and the notes do not settle the matter. They describe a taste instead: an oud that begins with fruit and a cool herb, for people who find a bare oud opening too heavy, and a leather the brand calls light, for people who want only a trace of it.
Al Ambra Ambra Oud Eau de Parfum, 100 ml: size and concentration
The spray is an eau de parfum of 100 ml (3.4 fl oz), with no second size on the brand's site. It should not be confused with the 10 ml concentrated perfume oil that Al Ambra also sells under the name Ambra Oud: that is a separate product, an oil for which no note list is published. For the spray the brand states a high oil richness and an Arabic blend style.
Al Ambra Ambra Oud compared with its closest siblings
Four named notes are common to Ambra Oud and The True Bold: cinnamon, amber, oud and leather. That is more than half of either list, so these two eaux de parfum in 100 ml are close relatives. The difference is small and telling. Ambra Oud has blood orange, mint and patchouli, which freshen the top and darken the base. The True Bold has vanilla and spicy tobacco, which sweeten it. The True Bold is titled for men; Ambra Oud is unisex in its title.
Imperium repeats the pairing of cinnamon and mint, and shares amber and patchouli as well. But Imperium is an extrait de parfum for men built on herbs and citrus, with lavender, bergamot, lemon, pear, clary sage, caraway, vanilla and cedar. It has no oud and no leather. Ambra Oud has both, and blood orange in place of lemon. If mint and cinnamon are what caught your eye, Imperium is the aromatic reading and Ambra Oud the resinous one.
Suyufi Ambra is the plainer of the two. Type and size are the same, an eau de parfum in 100 ml, its title says unisex too, and the only materials it names, amber and oud, are both in Ambra Oud as well. Ambra Oud is more specific: blood orange, cinnamon, mint, a light leather and patchouli all have names. On paper you therefore know more about Ambra Oud, and the comparison comes down to whether you want those five extras around the amber and the oud.

Ambra Oud is not among the Al Ambra scents that FragranceGems carries today.
