What mandarin is
Mandarin oil is pressed from the peel and smells sweeter and softer than lemon or grapefruit. Perfumers use it where a citrus opening should feel round rather than sharp. Next to flowers or musk it reads as a gentle, slightly candied fruit.
Sharper citrus notes are lemon and grapefruit; the most common one is bergamot.
