What bergamot is

Bergamot is a citrus fruit grown mainly in Calabria; its peel oil smells bright, slightly bitter and a little floral. It is the most common opening note in perfumery, because it lifts whatever follows without the sharpness of lemon. It fades quickly, which is why it nearly always stands in the top of a pyramid.

The other citrus notes with a page are lemon, mandarin and grapefruit.
