What does Al Ambra Jood smell like?
The top is green and bright. The shop lists green violet, which points to the leafy side of violet, together with Sicilian bergamot, lime, white pepper and powdery notes. Lime is sharper than lemon, white pepper drier than black, and the powder softens the citrus.
The heart is the most unusual part of the list. Water lily is a watery floral, palm leaf a green leaf accord and ozonic notes an airy effect of fresh air. Thyme, ginger and cypress add herb, spice and a resinous green wood, and a light leather accord gives the heart a soft, skin-like texture.
The base returns to woods and musk: petitgrain, Mysore sandalwood, green moss, patchouli, tonka bean and white musk. Petitgrain is the green, woody oil of bitter orange leaves, green moss gives a damp, earthy note, and tonka bean adds a little sweetness. The whole pyramid stays on the fresh, green side.
What the FragranceGems listing says about Jood
Al Ambra does not list Jood on its own website, so the facts on this page come from the shop. FragranceGems files Jood under the fresh, floral and woody scent families and as unisex, with a moderate intensity. Its listing names spring and summer as seasons, and daily wear and work as occasions.
Who is Al Ambra Jood for?
The shop lists Jood as unisex. It suits someone who likes green, watery scents more than sweet ones: lime, water lily, palm leaf and ozonic notes set the tone, and only tonka bean adds sweetness. Spring and summer, the seasons the shop names, fit that list. If you want a warm or resinous scent, the rest of the range has better choices.
Al Ambra Jood Extrait de Parfum, 50 ml: size and concentration
Jood is an extrait de parfum in a 50 ml bottle, 1.7 fl oz, according to the shop's listing and the label in its product photo. The shop lists no other size. In Al Ambra's range, 50 ml is the usual size for an extrait.
Al Ambra Jood compared with its closest siblings
Musk Explorer has bergamot, sandalwood, patchouli and musk in common with Jood and comes in the same unisex 50 ml extrait format. It is spicier and more musky: timut pepper and Thai basil open it, and its base is built from modern woody and ambery molecules. Jood is the greener and more watery of the two, with violet, lime, water lily, palm leaf and ozonic notes.
Essence has bergamot, ginger, patchouli and tonka bean in common with Jood. It is a 100 ml extrait for men and leans on citrus and wood: grapefruit and lychee at the top, cedar, akigalawood, vetiver and amberwood below. Jood has no fruit apart from its citrus and keeps its heart for water lily, palm leaf and herbs.
Dubai Musk is the softer neighbour. It shares bergamot, sandalwood and musk with Jood and is also a 50 ml extrait for men and women. Its other notes are mandarin, black currant and magnolia, so it is a clean musk with a little fruit and flower. Jood is greener, with more herbs, more wood and a leather accord in the heart.
