What ylang-ylang is
Ylang-ylang is a tropical flower with a sweet, creamy, slightly banana-like smell. The flowers of the cananga tree are distilled, mainly in the Comoros and Madagascar, and the oil is sold in several grades taken at different stages of the distillation. In a perfume it rounds off a floral heart and gives it a creamy, slightly spicy sweetness.
