What ambergris is
Ambergris is a rare substance from the sperm whale; perfumes today rebuild its salty, warm, skin-like smell as an accord. The accord is usually built around molecules such as ambroxan. It gives a base a mineral warmth that is neither sweet nor woody.
For the single molecule that grew out of it, read ambroxan. In a chypre base it stands next to oakmoss and musk.
